Hutto Birthday Box
The overall theme designed to illustrate the prominent characteristics of the recipient’s personality and accomplishments.
With the above in mind, the top of the box was to evoke a deep love for family. The family name was to be the central focus. The family name was surrounded with intertwined oak leaves emanating from a single acorn. The oak leaves were chosen because of the historic symbolism of the oak tree which has been a representation of strength throughout the ages. The oak tree has deep roots (all of which amazingly germinate from a small acorn) and reflects the strong family grounding that he possesses.
A rendition of the recipient’s astrological sign of Leo was carved on the front of the box.
On the left end panel of the box the German Coat-of-Arms, known as the “Bundeswappen”, was carved to symbolize all of those aspects of the German culture so important to the recipient.
The “gator “ from the University of Florida was carved on the right end panel represents the eight years of study the recipient enjoyed and the impressive multiple degrees awarded through his hard work.
On the underside of the lid is carved the phrase “Working on mysteries without any clues” taken from one of the recipient’s favorite songs, Night Moves, by Bob Seger - in part because the words from the song also seem appropriate to coincide with his degree in Forensic Anthropology. The actual melody line of those words was carved to set them off and indicate they were part of a song.
