This box was carved for a man who was an organist as well as an organ repairer. It contained a 72 note music movement that played his favorite J.S. Bach composition. The music score was carved around the perimeter of the box - but not the title. His daughter, who commissioned the box, said that he would recognize the piece by the music - he would not need the title to let him know what it was!
An organ, of course, was carved on the lid. On the back panel of the box was carved a facsimile of Bach’s signature and the Latin phrase; “Soli Deo Gloria” which Back wrote on all of his compositions. It translates to “All the glory is God’s”.
