This box was carved for the retiring head of the LAPD Bomb Squad. This man was respected worldwide for his contributions to the methodology used by bomb technicians around the world.

The logo of the LAPD Bomb Squad formed the central focus of the lid. Foliated corners on the perimeter border were symbolic of the individual's Hawaiian heritage.

The front panel contains a plaque with the individual's name carved on it.

The detective's name, serial number, unit and department were carved on the underside of the lid. In keeping with the traditional statement made during detonation procedures, the inscription "Fire in the hole" surrounded by flourishing conveying the volatile nature of the work with which he was involved was included.

The end Panels of the box contained plaques with the Hawaiian words for Honor and Courage carved on them.
